Shaping the future of sustainable construction

Climate change is real and life-threatening and is constantly changing how we all approach life and business. The science is clear and indisputable and as a forward-thinking contractor we are constantly looking at ways we can reduce our environmental impact.

We’ve started 2022 with a great opportunity to change the shape of how we approach refit projects. We’ve been working collaboratively with Co-op to deliver their very first Circular Store in Borough Green, Kent. The idea behind this new store concept is to look at absolutely everything going into the store, what can be reused, upcycled and reconditioned plus looking at the lifespan of all equipment, can it be retained, upcycled or recycled when it comes to the stores next refit in 10-15 years’ time.

The planning stage was critical to its success, CDS and Co-op worked in collaboration to source alternative environmentally friendly or circular materials that could be recycled at the end of their life. Materials include sheepswool insulation and recycled fibreboard to ensure the building is sufficiently energy efficient and also recycled materials for entrance matting and signage.

To be the Co-op’s contractor of choice to deliver this new store concept was an honour, we now look forward to sharing our leaning, and this new innovative approach to construction with other clients to help reshape the future of sustainable construction.
